Lord of the UFCW Locals: 770’s John Grant

UFCW Local 770 President John Grant appears to be the ringleader of a group of Southern California UFCW chapters that seemingly enrich themselves at the expense of rank-and-file workers whose interests they claim to represent.

In fact, Grant himself enjoyed a cozy $193k/year salary in 2020 alone, all paid for by the hard-working members of UFCW Local 770. 770’s Secretary-Treasurer Kathy Finn made more than $195k/year.

UFCW 770 spends astronomical amounts of money on pay and benefits for self-serving union bosses like Grant. In 2020 alone, Local 770 spent more than $6 million of their members’ dues on salaries.

And while consumer inflation continues to impact workers’ pocketbooks, Local 770’s policies encourage bosses like Grant to fly first-class, and allow them to bring their spouses along for the ride.

Who foots the bill for these lavish perks?

Hardworking UFCW members, who Local 770 claims struggle to make ends meet as grocery workers. But did Local 770 bother to ask any of its members how they felt having up to $69.50 taken out of their paychecks each month?

We doubt it.

Since March 2020, members of UFCW Local 770 have had up to $1,600 taken out of their paychecks to foot the bill for the union’s reckless spending.

The hard-working frontline workers of Local 770 deserve better. Local 770 is failing its members via massive salaries, reckless spending and unjustifiable attacks on union employers that have increased wages and benefits for their employees.
